fashion tops

I hope you all appreciate this as it took me nearly all morning to sort through and scan these images of beautiful 70's fashion and wonderfulness. No copyright infringement intended, etc. etc. because these scans are from Irene Kleeberg's 1975 book Fashion Tops. Which is actually great.

fake bodega

Kanye is talking about some useless crap again because apparently some people called him out on this photo he took during Paris fashion week. Anyway, he responded with some "I'm really secure with my manhood" shit, yes yes we all believe you please put away your shutter shades and shut up now.

This post is not actually about Kanye though! Please feel free to take a bong hit a la Michael Phelps to celebrate. I try to bring in a little love on a Thursday evening. This is, actually, a post about the street style store (NOT) Half-Way Crooks. In case you have not yet had the misfortune to hear about this fine establishment, here is the spiel from the horse's mouth:
"America is fascinated with the swagger and poise of romanticized gangsterism. Full out criminals are base and vile, yet certain types of stylized, confident and shady characters are idolized: There are such things as half-way crooks."
I think the only people interested in "romanticized gangsterism" is Al Pacino, the fake mobsters off the Sopranos, and maybe Kanye. Even then, at least he's not a white Conservative who lives in Newton. I'm just sayin'. But, I'll be honest, I've never been to the store, though Luke told me that it was in a cramped basement, generally a massive disappointment, and he is now ashamed to have even been associated with it. Good.

Anybodegawannabe, last I checked, they didn't even carry the very essential kicks, only had overpriced tees, and Suga Daddy was threatening to turn the place into a cafe like he originally planned. But according to the Vanguard, they've finally moved up from the basement to a real place that slightly resembles a store. Finally worth a trip?

métallique

Wow, sorry about all the French stuff today, I don't know what's sparked this. Anyway, I was busy listening to Yelle, who is fucking fabulous and looking through Lookbook, though I hate it with a burning passion, those self-rightous hipsters.

Side note: this guy is probably the most hipsterish hipster I have come across so far. It's a little disconcerting when the little male hipsters are about ten times thinner than you. Don't worry, though, I know that it's not cute to rock the anorexic troll who feasts on blood look either. (I'm talking to you Trollsen twins.) Besides, my sister gives me the most grief and body-image issues anyway. Thanks for that.

Moving on, here's a Yelle-esque singer called Ladyhawke who has a song called Paris s'enflamme (Paris is burning) and I'm really pleased that I understand the lyrics! Maybe I have learned something about the language after all these years.

un mélange

I know that this blog can sometimes be pretty 80's orientated, but I'm not a decade-hata and I sincerely wish I lived in the 70's and had hair like Farah Fawcett.

Apart from the music, television, movies and everything else about the 70's, what I like best about the decade is the sewing pattern and catalogue books. Here are some of my favorite 70's adverts and other things.

(I actually can't look that turtle in the eye because we dissected one today. Sad.)

beardy strikes again

Now normally I don't like the Sartorialist. Actually, I tell a lie, I do like it quite a lot but I just fucking hate all the people who comment on it. For Christ's sake please please shut up. As a dead broke student just trying to figure out how to pay for college, I really can't be arsed to coo over thousand-dollar coats, handbags, and gloves. Also, I don't own a proper pajama set, sorry. But I don't know anyone who does, so fuck that.
Anyway, now that all my anger has been released... I'm not really a fan of much above, though the tie has some great detail and the bottle green is pretty Harry Potter, but the BEARD is great. El Greco, take note.
Wow. I actually can't stop looking at it. It's like a warm kitten on the chin, all fluffy and clean. Yeah, it occurred to me that this guy may be way more attractive without the beardiness, but what are you gonna do. Anyway, thank you, Mr Sartorialist for helping the crusade to bring back the mutton chops!

beyootiful

Good news for the lumberjacks amongst us, (you know who you are) beards are back in style. And not the scruffy look that hipsters are rocking all the time, I mean real fucking beards. According to the Guardian, beards are associated with laziness and hippies, but I don't know if I believe that. Then again, what do I know. Personally, I have a problem with facial hair (note: Prince William) because if you resemble a weasel and your name is Dave Seliger, then you're trying too hard.

Beardy folk are okay only if you're Rolf Harris or the weyrd sisters, I suspect. And even then Rolf Harris is not okay. Bearded ladies on the other hand, have an element of class and hilarity... mostly the latter though. I am convinced, however, that Celeste would totally rock the bearded look.

But if you carefully style it to be entered into the World Beard and Mustache Championships, like the seriously elegant man above, I believe it to be a just cause. (Although it is still highly possible that you need some mental help.)

Inspiration til din påklædning, direkte fra Danmarks gader

So because I have nothing better to do, I somehow stumbled across this Danish street style website called GadeMode and it's totally bitchin'. I don't speak Danish so I have no idea what the hell the any of that means but that's not the point. Onto the photos.

Oh, young hipster love.

What can I say. Actually, I have nothing else to say. I leave you with these goodies.
